What is the free trial lesson?

You'll cover actual content tailored to your level and goals. One free trial per person. Just create a free account and book a slot directly. No waiting, no back-and-forth by email.

How much do lessons cost and how do I pay?

Regular 1-on-1 lessons start at ₩55,000 per 50-minute session, with discounts for multi-lesson packages (4, 8, or 12 lessons). You can pay via PayPal or Korean bank transfer. Once payment is confirmed, you can book your next lesson immediately. Purchased lesson credits are valid for 3 months from the date of purchase.

Do I need any Korean knowledge to start?

Not at all. Many students start with zero Korean. They can't even read Hangul yet. Gyuhun will assess your level in the first lesson and build a plan from there. If you're a complete beginner, you'll start with Hangul and basic pronunciation. Not sure where you stand? Try the free level test first.

What happens in a typical lesson?

Every lesson is tailored to you. Gyuhun reviews homework from the previous session, introduces new vocabulary and grammar, and always includes conversation practice. You'll receive PDF materials and homework after each lesson so you can review and keep progressing between sessions.

How is this different from apps like Duolingo?

Apps are great for exposure but they don't teach you how Korean actually works. With Gyuhun, you get a real curriculum, personal feedback on your pronunciation, answers to your specific questions, and someone who adapts to the way you learn. Most students make more progress in 4 weeks of lessons than months of app use.

What platform do we use for lessons?

All lessons are held over Zoom. You'll receive the Zoom link by email after booking. A stable internet connection and a quiet space are all you need. No special equipment required.

Question 8

Can I cancel or reschedule a lesson?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Please reschedule or cancel at least 12 hours before your lesson using your dashboard or the link in your confirmation email. Cancellations with less than 12 hours notice are not eligible for a refund.

What's the difference between paying via PayPal and Korean bank transfer?

Accepted Answer

PayPal is instant: credits are added to your account immediately after payment, so you can book a lesson right away. Korean bank transfer is the better option if you're already in Korea and prefer using your local bank, but it takes up to 24 hours to verify the transfer manually before credits are added. If your lesson is coming up soon, use PayPal to avoid delays.

I take recurring lessons. What happens if I run out of credits?

Your weekly slot is automatically reserved for you. If your credit balance reaches zero, you'll receive an email reminder, and your next lesson will be held for you in 'pending payment' status. To keep the lesson, you must top up your credits at least 24 hours before the lesson starts. If payment isn't received by then, the lesson auto-cancels (but your recurring slot stays reserved for future weeks).

When do I need to pay by?

For one-time lessons, you can book immediately after purchasing credits, anytime before the lesson. For recurring lessons, payment must be received at least 24 hours before each lesson. Cancellations follow a separate policy: you can cancel up to 12 hours before for a full credit refund. These two deadlines (24h to pay, 12h to cancel) are different, so please plan accordingly.

I'm learning Korean for K-dramas / to talk to my partner / to move to Korea. Is this right for me?

When is the structured video course launching?

The self-paced Level 1 video course (16 lessons, from zero to first conversation) is currently in production. Scripts and lesson plans are finalized. In the meantime, 1-on-1 lessons are the best way to start, and platform tools (vocabulary SRS, grammar quiz, AI practice, pronunciation rules, pronunciation evaluation) are available with free-tier limits or full access with a lesson package.
